Those Proud Dad Moments
As soon as I found out my wife was pregnant back in 2016 my mind raced with all of the possibilities of hopefully raising a fishing buddy and getting to share future adventure. I immediately wanted to find what I called the perfect "Baby Backpack" so I could throw my boy on my back and get him on the water. I will write more about my thoughts on the Osprey Poco AG down the line (teaser - it is the single best purchase I think we made as parents).
At this time, I just want to share a proud parenting moment. I have taken our son Wyatt fly fishing in his backpack about a dozen times. We have caught plenty of blue gill, yellow perch, and rock bass and he loved it. Hearing him yell, "fiss!" when I hold up the catch for him tugs at my heart strings. What I really wanted was to catch a trout with Wyatt. On a recent trip to New Hampshire it finally happened and I connected with a nice little brown on a streamer. Super proud dad moment.
Fly fishing with a toddler is not all rainbows and puppy dogs. You have a miniature human on your back with an attention span that is constantly changing. There is yelling, crying, pooping, snacking, the constant removal of your hat and sunglass, and lots of moving around. There is also a lot of calm, laughing, and excitement. Catching that brown will forever be one of my best fishing memories because I got to share that experience with my son.
